What you will need:
Old plain t-shirt, 3” of elastic, thread and a needle, markers chalk, 1 safety pin, 1 ruler
1. Measure and mark t-shirt for 12” by 26”. Cut measured amount out. Fold fabric in half with right sides together. The fabric should now measure 13” by 12”.
2. With right sides together, stitch along the 13” edges using a ½” seam allowance. On one side leave a ½” opening at the top near the fold. Stitch the complete length of the other side.
3. Press both seams open. On the side with the ½” opening, fold back the seams about 1” (or enough space to fit the elastic through). Stitch the ½” opened side down around the edges of the opened seam.
4. Attach the safety pin to the end of the elastic and thread it through the now sewn down seam. Very carefully sew the elastic together once you get it through.
5. Move the sewn together elastic through the casing so you don’t see it as much. Now sew the open bottom part together so you don’t see it at all.
6. Now turn the turban to the back with the completely sewn down edge. Flip the turban so it is now right side up (instead of inside out). Carefully fold pleats to the sewn down edge. Make sure it matches up with pleats from the front made from the elastic scrunching. Take your thread and needle and sew the pleats in place.
7. Viola! Fashionista your turban is done. Feel free to sew on jewels, embroider it or leave it plain. Dress up or dress down any outfit with this lovely creation!
